Project Declutter

It has been a running joke in my house that I am one stack away from being on the show "Hoarders".   Maybe I am not that bad, but at least I have a trail in my garage to get from point A to point B.  Even though the house is messy, I know EXACTLY where everything is--it's an organized disaster.

If you are anything like me, some days you just walk by the clutter without a glance. Somehow it has become part of the fixture or has made a "home" in that spot for good. Other days when walking by the clutter it can become quite the annoyance. The clutter has somehow taken over the entire house and thinking about it can be plain overwhelming.  Some days it sounds wonderful to have a bulldozer just demolish the house so we can start new and fresh-- I wish!

To reverse the clutter and gain back control of my own house, I wanted to do a "Project Declutter" series.  Over the next few weeks, the blog will be covering different aspects of decluttering your home and your life.  It doesn't have to be overwhelming and a difficult feat as most people imagine.

Join us through the "Project Declutter" series as we share tips to overcome clutter, ways to change our bad habits, and enjoy seeing a glimpse into my real life mess.

What are some ways you declutter and stay on top of it?

  1. Every time I watch "Hoarders," I go on a major cleaning spree. Makes you evaluate what you really need, you know? My family always knows when it's at a certain point in my "cycle," because all I do is de-clutter and organize closets, etc. I guess it's better than going off the rails!

    One thing I do to keep things in check is something I learned from waiting tables years ago: never leave a room empty-handed. So when things get transported by me or others, I make sure that every time I move from room to room, I'm taking something that belongs in the room I'm going to. It helps a lot! Now if I could only convince my family to do the same!

    Thanks for stopping by my blog!

    1. That's funny you mention "cycle" cleaning. Many times when my hubby sees me cleaning he'll ask "Who made you mad?" because I usually do a deep clean when I'm upset. haha! I love the idea of taking back an item every time you leave the room. Definitely keeping that on my declutter list! Thanks for commenting and stopping by the blog.

  2. I think this is a wonderful and much needed thing you are doing! It's amazing how clutter can build up when you don't tend to it daily!

    1. There is 2 years of built up clutter, so it's definitely time to do something about it. It's refreshing to accomplish even one area of clutter :)

  3. When I moved 3 years ago I really took my time packing. I decluttered quite a bit and vowed to move in organized. It really did help. I guess in a way it was like the bulldozer method... just a little less messy. Ha! I look forward to this series!

  4. Haha, I'm the same way... clutter is either a "fixture" or complete annoyance! We're getting ready to pack up our house and move most of it to storage in order to live on a sailboat for a few months. I'm looking forward to using this as an opportunity for decluttering and weeding out excess that we don't need!

    1. Ok, so I got hooked the instant you said that you will be living on a sailboat. Had to check out your blog! Sounds like such a neat experience so I'll be checking out your blog more often :) Thanks for stopping by!

  5. I am the Queen of Piles {since I know what is in each one and no one is allowed to move anything}
    Watching Hoarders actually makes me feel good about myself because there has never once been a dead cat found in ANY of my piles ;) Score.

    I am excited to see what you come up with in this series! I am about to move and will be doing a force de-cluttering adventure myself but probably won't have the energy to write about it...

    I hope to gain some fun tips from you and will add my 2 cents when I can!! :)

    1. HAHA! I saw that dead cat episode too! The owner was like "oh there's that cat".... I'm actually doing a 30 day challenge to declutter my house. Hope to hear how your decluttering adventure goes!
